Today I am going to talk about the greatly misunderstood digestive disorder known as "Acid Reflux." Why do so many people today suffer from this uncomfortable digestive issue, and what can they do to remedy the situation? Obviously, one must first understand the REAL cause of acid reflux if they intend to remedy the situation.
The real cause of acid reflux will probably come as a surprise to you at first. At the moment, you or someone you know is probably taking an acid-blocking drug in order to relieve acid reflux symptoms because you have been conviced that the disease is caused by too much acid being produced. The problem with this approach is that most people experience acid reflux due to the fact that they DON'T PRODUCE ENOUGH ACID. That's right!
When enough acid is not produced from the start and you proceed to consume food, your stomach panics and secretes an overabundance of acid in order to compensate for not having enough to begin with. This excess of acid which is released all at once causes the pain and discomfort that the person experiences during an acid relfux episode.
So logic would tell us that in order to avoid an episode of acid reflux, we must ensure that we have ample stomach acid available in the BEGINNING of the meal so as to ensure that the panic message is not sent out along with the ensuing rush of acid. You can achieve this through several different ends, although the basic "cure" will be the same regardless. You have to supplement with one of several forms of acid RIGHT BEFORE you begin eating. You can achieve this through using either apple cider vinegar (2 tsp in 8 ounces of water) or Betaine HCL (1-2 caps) before your meals.
Now there is one other thing which you must do in order to fully rectify the problem. You must discontinue the acid-blocking drug that you are on since it is further decreasing stomach acid production in an already acid-starved environment. You can see now that it makes no sense to take an acid-blocking drug when you already are not producing enough!
Remedying acid reflux really is that simple. Just pick your medicine (apple cider vinegar or betaine hydrochloride caps) and take it before each meal. You will see a great improvement in your symptoms with your very first meal, although it will take a while to experience complete relief since retraining your stomach to produce its own acid takes time.
